Long-Time WTBF Announcer and Co-Owner Jim Roling Dies

Jim Roling, a long-time announcer and co-owner of WTBF-FM in Troy passed away Wednesday morning.

Roling was well known and loved by the Troy community. He passed away in his sleep. He started working at WTBF in 1961. Roling spent most of his radio career in Troy.  Over the years he received many awards, including an induction into the Alabama Broadcasters Association’s Hall of Fame in 2008. Co-workers say he was the rock that held them all together.

“He was the kind of guy that wanted things done right and would go to extremes to make sure,” says Ralph Black.

“He was our back-bone, he was our support. He was our calmer. He never got upset about anything because I’m pretty high-strung myself…But he was the glue. He was it,” says Jennifer Smith.

Roling is survived by his wife, Angie and daughter, Caylor. He was 73-years old.
