Voters in Demopolis elected a new mayor during the election Tuesday.

Retired plant manager John Laney rode a wave of change in the city to a lopsided victory in a crowded mayor’s race.

Mayor-elect Laney came out on top in a field of five candidates that included incumbent mayor Mike Grayson.

Laney got more votes in the election than all the other candidates combined.

Laney says he’s ready to lead the city forward and he has a plan to create more jobs.

“There are things that I think we need to do in the city to improve the condition of the city and the way the city operates,” he said.

“I believe that we need to have a focus on our existing businesses cause I feel our existing businesses need to be our best advocate for economic development.”

Laney has already started visiting each city department. He officially takes office November 7th.
