Auburn’s Bri Folds named SEC Freshman of the Week
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (auburntigers.com) – Bri Folds was named the SEC Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. This marks the freshman’s first career weekly honor.
Folds was instrumental in the attack in Auburn’s two victories last week. She was responsible for three points in the matches with one goal and one assist.
Against Kentucky, Folds knotted the match up at 1-1 in the first half after she buried a shot into the back of the net from a layoff by Kristen Dodson. The Tigers went on to win 2-1.
On Sunday, the Lakeland, Fla. native set up the match’s final goal by returning the favor to Dodson on a cross that was headed in and sealed a 3-0 victory, vaulting the Tigers into a tie for second place in the conference standings.
The Tigers are 5-0 this season when Folds records at least one point in a contest. The freshman has rattled off back-to-back outings with either a goal or assist twice this season.
Folds’ recognition marks Auburn’s 14th Freshman of the Week in program history and is the fourth year in a row that a Tiger has received top rookie honors from the SEC.
Auburn returns to the field Friday night when it takes on Arkansas. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at the Auburn Soccer Complex.
