Jane Road Shooting Update
Officials say charges may not be filed against a homeowner that fatally shot a Troy University student, based on the “Stand Your Ground” law.
Authorities are still investigating the case that left the Troy University student Michael Kennedy dead.
They he knocked on the door of a home in in the 300 block of Jane Road, armed with a gun because he thought his cell phone was located there. That’s when police say the homeowner shot Kennedy several times in self-defense. Now the final decision is left to a grand jury.
“It is up to a grand jury to determine what if anything is to be charged and they’ll be given and provided a list of options of any potential charges that may apply in general circumstances,” says District Attorney Tom Anderson.
Officials say the case will go to a grand jury at the beginning of next year.
