SIAC & NFL extend officiating development program
ATLANTA (thesiac.com) – The Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) has extended its agreement with the NFL that creates additional training and development opportunities for individuals seeking to enter the football officiating profession.
The NFL will continue to provide the SIAC with technical assistance at conference officiating clinics and offer feedback about current officiating best practices. Officials in the NFL’s Intermediate Development Program will also receive opportunities to officiate conference games.
“We are pleased to renew our football officiating partnership with the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC), and look forward to working with commissioner Greg Moore and coordinator Tom Symonette, as we continue our efforts to strengthen officiating at all levels of our sport,” said Alberto Riveron, Senior Director of NFL Officiating.
Symonette was named the SIAC Coordinator of Football Officials in March and served as a line judge in the NFL for 12 seasons. Symonette was also on the field in that capacity for Super Bowl XLVIII in 2014 and three years earlier he was an alternate for Super Bowl XLV.
“The SIAC has and will continue to remain fiercely committed to seizing those opportunities that expand access and increase opportunities for our stakeholders,” remarked Commissioner Greg Moore. “To that end, we are very proud to continue this important partnership with the NFL and continue to make meaningful progress with respect to diversity and inclusion.”
