Police Investigate Death of Body Found in Downtown Troy

body-found456654.jpgOn Saturday October 29, at approximately 3:15pm an officer with the Troy Police Department came in contact with a vehicle parked on the square that was still running. The officer observed a white male slumped over inside the vehicle and attempted to make contact with the subject to see if he needed medical attention. The subject was unresponsive and the officer immediately summoned medical personnel.

Shortly after the Troy Fire Department and Haynes Ambulance arrived on scene it was determined that the subject was deceased.

The subject has been identified as fifty-two year-old Richard Allen McNaught from Wisconsin. Early in the investigation it was revealed that McNaught was employed as a caretaker for an elderly subject in Barbour County. McNaught’s next of kin has been notified and his body has been taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science so that an autopsy can be performed.

McNaught’s body did not show any physical signs of trauma and the cause of death has not been determined at this time.

The Troy Police Department is investigating this case as a death investigation with the assistance of the Pike County District Attorney’s Office, the Pike County Coroner’s Office and the Alabama Department of Forensic Science.
