Issues to Face in Upcoming Legislative Session

It’s less than 2 weeks until the start of this year’s legislative session.

State Representative Alan Boothe of Pike and Dale county says legislators have a challenging month ahead. One of the biggest issues is overcrowding in the state’s prison. There are also decisions to be made on Medicaid. Booth says it’s not known what the federal government will do with Medicaid. Since a new administration is in Washington. As for the prison issue, just like Medicaid there is a lot to take into consideration.

“There are a lot of issues within the prison issue.” do you do an 800 million dollar bond issue? Do you improve the facilities you’ve got? You just got a lot of issues – how many prisons do you build? Where do you build those prisons?” says Boothe.

The regular session is set to begin Tuesday, February 7th.
