AUM Hires Alumna Jessie Rosa to Lead Athletics Department
Auburn University at Montgomery Chancellor Carl A. Stockton has named Jessie Rosa Director of Athletics, effective March 1, 2017.
Rosa previously served as the department’s Associate Athletics Director and Senior Woman Administrator (SWA). She has served as interim AD since the departure of Jim Herlihy. Rosa, an AUM alumna and former student-athlete, has spent 10 years working within AUM Athletics.
Following her career in women’s soccer, Rosa spent two years as a graduate assistant before beginning her steady ascent through the ranks, including time as Senior Program Associate and Assistant Athletics Director for Finance.
“I thank Dr. Stockton and the selection committee for this opportunity and for entrusting me with the leadership of AUM Athletics through our transition into NCAA Division II and on to a successful future in the conference,” said Rosa.
“The passion that I have for this institution — as a former student-athlete, a two-time alumna and a long-time department administrator — will continue to drive me to serve our coaches and staff to ensure they are in a position to succeed and to provide our student-athletes the ultimate Warhawk experience.”
Beginning Gulf South Conference play for the 2017–18 season, AUM currently sponsors 11 sports, with its newest sport, volleyball, launching in the fall of 2017. Rosa takes the helm at a critical time for the program, currently in Provisional Year One of the NCAA Division II membership process and working toward full membership in 2019–20.
“After a nationwide search, the selection committee and I found Jessie to be extremely qualified for the position and believe she has the experience necessary to lead our Athletics Department during this exciting time,” said AUM Chancellor Stockton.
Rosa earned her bachelor’s degree in Communication and a master’s degree in Business Administration from Auburn University at Montgomery. Rosa has been active in the Montgomery community, participating in the Leadership Montgomery Torchbearers Leadership Class, the Montgomery Dixie Lions Club, and serving as a mentor with Partner’s in Education.
