ASU Homecoming Week Buzzing with Excitement

80’s legend Chaka Khan kicked off things for the weekend at Alabama State University.
But earlier Friday, we caught up with Heritage Barber Shop where things were all abuzz for homecoming.
“Trying to get some excitement around this city, help ASU pump up since they do change for homecoming,” said Vladimir Averett, Heritage Barber Shop Owner.
They were getting ready for their own party outside.
And on the inside, it was about getting themselves ready.
“Gotta get a little nice for the game.. it’s a big day, though,” said ASU football player Kejuan Riley.
“Gosh, it’s like seeing everybody you haven’t seen for years. Just a bonding experience, everybody coming back together to hear stories about what happened when we were in undergrad,” said Luke Taylor.
Even though the Turkey Day Classic this year has moved from Thanksgiving Day to the weekend before and they aren’t playing longtime rival Tuskegee, students still see it as a good thing.

“Big difference. But now you can have all the students come to the game and won’t be home watching it. Good experience. Something new,” said Riley.
Some things are new… And some things stay the same. And that’s what students say they like about homecoming.
“Looking forward to it, excited. Excited about meeting new friends and running back into my old friends as well,” said graduate Shakira Kellum.
Students say it’s all a part of the one week a year that brings everyone together with great events.
“We’re having a great week so far. We had a comedy show . We had a step show. We had a student concert. Everything been successful,” said Toris Vines.
