Gadsden Cancels ‘RiverFest’ Event for 2015

GADSDEN, Ala. (AP) – The annual RiverFest musical event won’t be held this year in Gadsden.

The festival lost money the last two years, and The Gadsden Times reports city officials decided against granting rights for organizers to stage the event in 2015.

The RiverFest Community and Economic Development Corp. had hoped to transform the event into a combination event featuring Christian, rock and country artists, with a lower admission price.

But Mayor Sherman Guyton says he and the council had decided against having the event in 2015.

The Chamber of Gadsden and Etowah County had hosted the event. That ended in 2014 after the festival lost money for the second straight year.

The mayor says he hopes RiverFest can return in 2016. The event was first held in 1986.
