Students Compete in Junior-Senior Beef Cookoff
Beef, it’s what’s for dinner, and it was at the center of a head-to-head cooking competition for the best student chefs across the state.
Â
Several dozen students from all across Alabama who won local cooking competitions came to Montgomery today to compete in the Alabama Cattlemen Association’s Junior-Senior Beef Cookoff.
Â
At the end of the day, Joel Dobbins of Etowah County took home the title “Best of Beef.”
Â
“Food always helps people feel good. Everybody’s hungry all the time. Everybody likes to eat. So I like to make people feel good about themselves, let people have a sense of enjoyment and see a smile on someone’s face,” said Dobbins.
Â
Dobbins took home a $350 prize, with his teacher also claiming $100. The payout came courtesy of Alabama’s Beef Checkoff program.
Â
Organizers say these student chefs really get a chance to shine during the competition.
Â
“There is so much creativity and time and preparation put into preparing the dish, making it look nice. It really makes it look like a culinary masterpiece, as I like to call it, for beef,” said Erin Beasley, Director of Consumer Marketing for the Alabama Cattleman’s Association.
Â
Alabama News Network’s own Jeff Sanders and Glenn Halbrooks served as judges for the event.Â
