After closing for nearly six months, one of Crenshaw County’s hidden treasures will once again be open. This serene location is the Crenshaw County Lake.

The previous owner closed the lake due to an illness. He later died. Since his death the lake was closed for six months, but before the lake reopens major changes had to be made. Repainting, cleaning signs, boat repairs, and  repainting the handicap spaces.

Officials for the Alabama Wildlife and Fresh Water Fisheries said this lake is much needed. Especially for fishing during the spring. They say this lake in the last several years has produced some really nice bass. In the past several years the average bass harvested at the lake was over two and a half pounds, which is at the top of our 23 state lakes.

Before the lake closed It was a place where locals and even travelers could come to enjoy the land as well as the view. Now Johnson hopes that once it opens people will come back and enjoy the scenery yet again.

Johnson also says without the help and generous donations from Bass Pro Shops, Camo Country, and Jim Ackerman, re-opening the lake would still be a dream, But that dream will finally turn into reality when the lake opens February first.
