Alabama Jobless Rate Jumps to 7 Percent

Alabama’s unemployment rate is on the rise. Gov. Robert Bentley announced Friday the state’s unemployment rate for July was 7 percent. That’s two-tenths of a percent higher than the June rate of 6.8 percent. Last month’s rate also is higher than the July 2013 jobless rate of 6.3 percent. New Shortcut to Alabama Beaches Opens in Baldwin Co.

A new shortcut is opening to Alabama’s beaches. A nearly 13-mile stretch of road called the Baldwin Beach Express opens completely to traffic on Friday. Alabama Man Convicted in Woman’s Shooting Death

A man accused of fatally shooting a woman while she was holding her newborn baby has been convicted of capital murder. Corderious McClellan was found guilty Thursday in the death of Sherri Williams, who was holding her 10-day-old baby while she stood in the doorway of her Birmingham apartment in April of 2013.
