Alabama, Auburn Arrive in Montgomery

Both the number one team in the country and the number four team in the country are staying in Montgomery to get mentally focused on the Iron Bowl.

For Auburn, it’s tradition to stay in Montgomery the night before every home game. And for some fans, it’s tradition to wait outside of the Renaissance hotel for the team busses to arrive.

“I’m out here to support the team,” says fan John Smith. “The best team in the state of Alabama.”

A crowd began to form hours before Auburn was scheduled to arrive. Fans donning orange and blue waited anxiously to see the team one last time before the Iron Bowl.

“I want to see the coach,” says Carol Jones. “I want to see all the players, everybody. This has been a wonderful year.”

Just feet away was the Alabama team staying at the Embassy Suites. Some fans tell us seeing the tide up close is a dream come true.

“I want to get some autographs and pictures with the players ,” says Madeleine Chernau.

“Cheer our team on as they pull into town,” says Alabama fan Amy Mozingo. “We’re thrilled. So excited.”

Fans of both teams hoped to catch a glimpse of their favorite players.

“I really want to see Tre Mason,” says Carter Smith.”

“AJ McCarron,” says another fan.

Although just a single street separates the football teams and their fans, the rivalry is still in the air.

“It won’t even be close,” says Alabama Alumnus John Holmes. “I’m very confident. It may be close for the first quarter but after that, it’ll be all downhill.”

“There’s a lot riding on this,” says Smith. “So they can look at it how they want to but the Gus-Bus is riding and it’s got a super charger.”
