Former CEO of 2 Ala Health Clinics Arrested

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) – Authorities say they’ve arrested the former chief executive of two Alabama health clinics serving the poor.

The U.S. attorney’s office in Birmingham says 51-year-old Jonathan Wade Dunning was arrested a resort hotel in Hoover on Monday.

Dunning was once CEO of Birmingham Health Care and Central Alabama Comprehensive Health in Tuskegee. He’s accused on multiple counts of fraud, conspiracy, money-laundering and other charges.

A statement from prosecutors says Dunning left the clinics to run a private business. Dunning is suspected of funneling government money from the health operations into the company.

Defense attorneys have said Dunning is being mistakenly implicated in wrongdoing by others.
