Lawmakers may be one step closer to agreeing on a general fund budget.

A budget made it out of committee Tuesday. They passed tax increases that were rejected last special session.

Everything from a cigarette tax, to rental cars, to prescriptions made it out of committee and will head to the house.

Rep. Steve Clouse, (R) Ozark said, “This process has been like herding kittens. Every time you think you have them all in the basket, one jumps out so right now the kittens are all in the basket.”

Another big development today- the ways and means education committee voted to move the use tax or tax on out of state tax on goods to the general fund.

That can’t happen until next year, so they also voted to move 50 million from reserves to the general fund. That needs to be paid back.

It’s important to mention again we still don’t have a budget. The house will be first to vote on it, likely tomorrow.
