Alabama relents on Maurice Smith transfer case

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AlabamaNews.Net) – Wednesday, Alabama Head Football Coach Nick Saban told reporters that the university has cleared the way for  Tide senior defensive back Maurice Smith to transfer within the Southeastern Conference, if he so chooses.

Smith, who has already graduated from Alabama, has been trying to follow former Tide assistants Kirby Smart and Mel Tucker to Georgia, but was blocked from moving to another SEC school by Alabama officials citing the SEC’s intra-conference transfer policy.

Wednesday in his media briefing, Coach Saban said he would have nothing more to say on the matter after revealing the school had relented on it’s position

Smith was a first-team nickel back for the Tide during the spring.
