ASU Student Killed in Car Crash in Atlanta

Alabama State University is mourning the loss of one its students.

Police say Freshman, Jarrett Mumford, died in following a two car wreck outside of Atlanta. It happened Sunday night in Union City, Georgia. Two others, including Mumford’s 16 year old brother Jaylen, also died.

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.

ASU President Gwendolyn Boyd released a statement on Mumford’s death.

“The entire Alabama State University family is saddened by the loss of freshman student Jerrett Mumford. Each student at ASU is special to us, and we know that Jerrett will be greatly missed by his family and on campus.”

A student-led campuswide memorial service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at ASU’s Card Residence Hall for Mumford.
