MPS Employees Protest Return to In-Person Learning

Thousands of Montgomery Public Schools students left the virtual classroom and returned to the traditional Tuesday, October 13. But around 100 teachers protested the decision to re-start classroom learning.

While students have the option to return to school or continue with virtual learning, teachers say they wanted the same option. Some said that Montgomery Public Schools doesn’t have a plan to keep them safe.

The protesting teachers believe that those with health risks should be allowed to work at home. They also think that teachers shouldn’t be required to teach both in-person and virtual classes.

MPS leaders say about 60% of the 28,000 students in the system are returning to school while the rest are continuing at home.

There is a shortage of teachers in the MPS school system.
