Montgomery Bicycle Club sets up energizer station in front of Alabama Capitol
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – You may have seen more people riding bicycles on your way to work. It’s all part of National Bike Month.
This week was “Bike to Work Week” and the Montgomery Bicycle Club encouraged people to give up their morning commute in their cars and cycle to work instead.
The club set up an energizing station for cyclists downtown at the Alabama Capital this morning to give out t-shirts, coffee, muffins and cold beverages.
The Montgomery Bicycle Club started in the early 1980s to encourage people of all ages to ride their bikes recreationally and competitively. Club members say cycling is way to be active, save some gas and get some fresh air to jump start your day.
“A lot of people maybe can’t handle the high impact of running as they get older. Cycling is a low impact sport where they can still enjoy that physical activity but in a way that’s kinder and gentler to their bodies as well lifelong, so we just want people to have a lifelong of enjoyment on a bicycle,” Montgomery Bicycle Club President Robert Traphan told Action 8 News.
