Maxwell Air Force Base & Trenholm State enter new partnership agreement
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – Maxwell Air Force Base and Trenholm State Community College have entered a partnership agreement together.
A new childcare apprenticeship and staffing program will allow Trenholm State students the opportunity to work within the base’s child and youth program facilities. The agreement will help benefit service members’ families to receive care as well.
The new program looks to foster more community involvement at the base as well as bring potential employment opportunities. The signing that took place earlier today made that agreement official.
“This is huge. I will tell you that this is a first of its kind in our entire airforce. It opens the door for partnerships, but also that community engagement,” Commander of the 42nd Air Base Wing, Shamekia Toliver, told Action 8 News.
“It’s a great deal for both parties, for both Trenholm and Maxwell. It gives the folks at Trenholm State an opportunity to practice their skills that they’re learning in school. It gives the base a pipeline for those human resources and for those manpower resources that are so critical to our job,” said Nate Williams, 42nd Mission Support Group Commander.
“You can work in childhood development in our River Region in any area, but then having the same thing afforded to you at Maxwell, that says a lot. Having that community partnership is just so significant because we always want to provide those resources for our service members, so our students are super excited about the partnership,” Dr. Kemba Chambers, President of Trenholm State Community College, told Action 8 News.
The program will officially kickoff this fall at the start of the new school year.
