Police officers dressed in tactical gear — trying to gain entry into an apartment — where two armed escaped inmates were believed to be holed up.

“We had four inmates escape the Perry County facility which is a facility that’s being used by the Dallas Co. Sheriff’s Office due to we don’t have a jail right now due to the storm. We were able to apprehend two of them right off the bat,” said Sheriff Mike Granthum.

Escapees Marquavious Billingsley and Kevin Gunn have been on the run from authorities since the jail break with U.S. Marshals hot on their trail.

The two escapees barricaded themselves in an apartment at GWC Homes and refused to come out.

“Tear gas was deployed, pepper balls was deployed and they still refused to come out,” said Granthum.

“We had information they were armed with one pistol, so precaution had to be used.”

The standoff lasted for more than two hours. It ended peacefully — after the escapees surrendered to authorities.

Billingsley and Gunn are now back to jail. Both are facing additional charges.
