ACTION 8 WEATHER AUTHORITY (WAKA) – Dangerous heat index values of 105-110 degrees are expected Monday and Tuesday in our area.

The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory from 11AM CDT Monday until 9PM CDT Tuesday.

You can expect air temperatures of 94 to 99 degrees during this time throughout Central Alabama.

That presents a “major” heat risk for heat-related illnesses. You should limit your time outdoors between 10AM and 6PM and find a cool place to remain indoors. If you are outdoors, you should remain hydrated to avoid possible heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

Heat exhaustion happens when you overheat and lose water and salt through excessive sweating. Common warning signs include heavy sweating, pale and clammy skin, a fast but weak pulse, dizziness, nausea and muscle cramps, according to the National Weather Service.

Symptoms of heat stroke are: confusion, slurred speech, hot, dry skin or profuse sweating, very high body temperature, seizures or even unconsciousness. This is a serious medical emergency and requires emergency help.
