Old wooden bridge raising safety concerns in Wilcox Co.
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
The condition of an old bridge in Wilcox County — has the residents who have to use it everyday — scared for their safety.
The old wooden bridge is located in the Lamison community on Willie Powell Road.
Four families live on the road — and crossing the rickety bridge is the only way in or out of their community.
A 10-ton weight limit prevents trucks — buses — and ambulances from using the bridge.
“We’re in a bad situation right now,” said Deborah Purnell.
“If we have an emergency over there, and I call it, behind the bridge, nobody can get to us quick enough to get us in, to get us help fast enough.”
County officials say replacing the bridge will cost about $400,000 dollars.
