25th anniversary of September 11 terrorist attacks remembered in downtown Montgomery
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – As the nation reflects on 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, people paused in downtown Montgomery to remember the nearly 3,000 lives lost on that terrible day.
City leaders, along with U.S. Rep. Shomari Figures (D-Alabama) and Sen. Katie Britt (R) Alabama, gathered at outside the Montgomery Fire/Rescue headquarters on Madison Avenue. The event honored the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001, as well as the 15 Montgomery firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty while protecting the Capital City over the years.
As the bell tolled during the ceremony, the 15 fallen Montgomery firefighters’ helmets were displayed, while Britt, Figures and Montgomery Mayor Reed each spoke and thanked the firefighters present for their selflessness in protecting the communities in Montgomery County.
