ACTION 8 UPDATE: Boy pulled from Montgomery community center pool dies

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – The 13-year-old boy who was pulled from a community center pool by the Montgomery Fire/Rescue Department has died.

The Montgomery Fire/Rescue Department had rescued the boy in a water‑related emergency at the McIntyre Community Center on Hugh Street just before 2:30PM yesterday.

The boy was found submerged in the deep end of the facility’s pool. The pool was not open to the public at the time.

The boy was brought to the surface, where CPR was performed. Advanced Life Support care was provided on scene. The boy was taken to Jackson Hospital’s Emergency Department in life‑threatening condition by paramedics.

The scene has been turned over to the Montgomery Police Department for further investigation.

Montgomery Mayor Steven Reed has released a statement, saying in part, “We extend our deepest sympathy to the child’s family, friends and loved ones as they face an unimaginable loss.

“At this time, the police have stated that the incident remains under investigation, and no further details have been released.”
