Dr. Darren Harris-Fain takes his time in the spotlight.
It’s a chance of a life time for the AUM English professor who started his journey to “Jeopardy!” back in 2007.

“Every year ‘Jeopardy!’ has an online test, each question has a different category. You fill in blanks, you have 15 seconds per question, and then when you’re done, you wait for the next stage,” said Harris-Fain.

The next stage is in-person auditions and an interview. Then Harris-Fain says if they want you, they will call you sometime within 18 months.
Harris-Fain went through the process 4 times in 8 years and finally got the call to be on the show.

“It was everything I expected. I had heard from other people they were a terrific group of people once you got there. They just treated you very well,” he said.

“The first time stepping on the set was just totally surreal.”

Harris-Fain ended up doing very well, though. He walked away with $22,000.

While the show was taped in March, it all hasn’t quite sunk in yet.

“Still feels a little unreal honestly, and it will continue to feel unreal because I won’t get any money until 120 days after the airdate!” said Harris-Fain.

He will go on to compete on Thursday, June 11 as the returning champion. You can watch locally on CBS 8 at 9:30am.
