Tallassee played host to the 14-year-olds’ state Babe Ruth Baseball Tournament.

Hundreds of people from all over the state were cheering on the six teams. The tournament started on Saturday and will run through Tuesday. Organizers say it’s about a two year process to try and host the tournament. A lot of coordinating and planning goes into it and organizers are hopeful it’s a homerun for the local economy.

Craig Vaught, coordinator said, “Well that’s one of the benefits from a financial standpoint, but also for years, Tallassee’s had a lot of baseball  players and we’ve also won state two of the last four years. Coming from a small town, we’ve asked all of the businesses to annie up, cause it’s expensive for 18 people. So when you’re going to whether it be Mobile, Alabama or Cala, Florida or Virginia like we’ve done, it takes a lot of money, so the point in that is, we’re just trying to repay the city back.”

The top three teams will play on Monday leading to the championship game on Tuesday.
