Day one of testimony in the retrial for David Nash is now over.

He’s accused of crafting a plan to kill Ralph McNeill, known as “Skip the Critterman.”
Three people are already behind bars for his murder but Nash, who was previously convicted for the murder, was granted a new trial due to juror misconduct.

Prosecutors say David Nash was the glue that held this whole murder-for-hire plot together. They say he paid to have two men, two cousins, kill Ralph McNeill. However the defense is arguing that he had little involvement in the murder.

Nash is back in court, charged with playing a role in a murder-for-hire scheme. Ralph McNeill, also known as “Skip the Critterman” was a popular exterminator who was shot and stabbed to death in Montgomery in January of 2011. Nash is accused of orchestrating the crime, paying two cousins nine thousand dollars to carry it out.

He showed up to court in a wheelchair. His attorney , Susan James, says he had a fall in jail.

“Today was the first day of testimony and that’s always a quick witness sort of day and we feel like it’s just going as most trials do.”

It’s alleged that Nash hired cousins Kindall and Jeremy Riley to kill McNeill because McNeill was in a custody dispute with ex-girlfriend Serena English. English was Nash’s fiance at the time.
Tuesday’s witnesses included first responders, experts, and those who knew McNeill.

“We expect more law enforcement witnesses tomorrow, that kind of thing and possibly some of the co-defendants,” James said.

Prosecutors rejected our request for an interview, saying they did not want to comment on a pending case.
Judge Charles Price came out of retirement to preside over this case. He was the judge during the original trial…and he is also the judge responsible for overturning Nash’s original conviction.

Cousins Kindall and Jeremy Riley are each serving 25 years for their role in McNeill’s death. Nash’s former fiance Serena English is serving a life sentence.
