More Plans to Improve Troy’s Municipal Airport

The Troy airport’s received more than a million dollars in improvements and repairs in the past decade. The majority of the bill’s been covered through federal airport improvement rant money.Â
And now the city’s getting ready to tackle the latest challenge at the airport- this one’s under the runway.Â
Â
Some of the drainage pipes at Troy’s Municipal Airport have been in the ground since World War II. The city’s now taking action to change that.Â
Â
The Troy City Council is moving forward with plans to asses the drainage system at the airport.
Â
Airport developers will bring in a group to feed cameras underground to see how to fix the deteriorating pipes.Â
Â
This is just the latest in multiple improvements to the airport.Â
Â
In the past decade the runway’s been extended, a new landing system installed- just to name a few. City and airport leaders believe it will be a long term investment.Â
Â
Al Allenback, Goodwyn, Mills & Cawood said, “Your airport is the first thing people see when they come to your community. If you have a CEO or a site selector traveling in by air, they are going to land at Troy Municipal Airport and they are going to walk into that beautiful terminal building you have and talk to your officials. So the airport is a very important aspect of community, and economic development.”
Â
The majority of the work at the airports been covered with federal grant money.Â
Â
The assessment of the drainage system will only cost the city $2,600. Estimates for fixing the drainage system are about $600,000 but the contractors hope they will come up with ways to drive the cost down once the assessment is complete in the next 8 to 10 months.Â
