Second MPS Officer Arrested

Another Montgomery Police officer has been arrested. The arrest is the second in two days. Spokeperson Denise Barnes says the Montgomery Police Department charged a 23-year-old police officer with domestic violence Wednesday afternoon and immediately initiated termination proceedings. Barnes says MPD charged Walter Smith with one count of domestic violence third degree (harassment), a misdemeanor, and transported him to the Montgomery City Jail. Smith’s arrest comes just one day after MPD arrested 25-year-old Jarrad Dixon. Officer Dixon was placed on leave after being charged with one count of Alabama’s Mandatory Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Law. Dixon joined the force in 2011.
