The Montgomery Salvation Army is under new leadership.
Majors Butch and Lisa Frost came to the Capital City in July. Before coming here, Majors Frost were assigned to the Salvation Army in Des Moines, Iowa.
The couple has served in ministry for many years and say that it is their honor to bring help to the community.
One of the challenges facing the Frosts is trying to find a permanent home for the Montgomery Salvation Army.
The city of Montgomery purchased the Salvation Army’s building on Maxwell Blvd. to make way for Montgomery Whitewater, which opened in July.
Since December 2022, the Montgomery Salvation Army’s offices have been temporarily housed at the MAP Center on E. Delano Avenue.
The majors tell WAKA Action 8 News that they are currently looking at some facilities. The goal of the new facility will be to house all services on one piece of property.
The recent move has caused the Salvation Army to temporarily close down their overnight housing and soup kitchen until they find a permanent residence. However, they are still assisting with housing bills and providing shelter for the homeless at a local motel.
While things are temporarily different, Majors Frost say the mission to help provide the needs of the community hasn’t changed.
Majors Frost say they are excited about being in the city and getting to know the people of the River Region.
