Final suspect in brawl at Montgomery’s Riverfront pleads guilty
Another suspect has pleaded guilty to being involved in a brawl on a dock at Montgomery’s riverfront this summer.
Today, a man who prosecutors say was recorded swinging a folding chair during the fight entered a plea in Montgomery Municipal Court. Reggie Ray pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor disorderly conduct charge.
He was given a suspended sentence and ordered to perform community service.
On August 5, the city’s Harriott II riverboat was trying to arrive at the dock it uses, but police say a private pontoon boat was in the way. Police say the people with the pontoon boat refused to move, so the riverboat’s co-captain got to shore on another boat and tried to move the pontoon boat himself.
That led to the fight, which got national attention because of video that was widely shared on social media.
Ray’s guilty plea resolves the last of the charges in the case. Four boaters have also pleaded guilty to charges ranging from harassment to assault.
The boat’s co-captain was also briefly charged after one of the boaters filed a charge against him, but that was dismissed last week. The mayor and the police chief have maintained the co-captain was a victim of the fight.
