A Severe Storm Threat Overnight Into Tuesday Morning!
Strong to severe storms are likely to move through our area tonight into early Tuesday. The main threats will be a few brief tornadoes, damaging wind gust up to 60 mph, and very heavy rainfall. The greater risk for tornadoes will be well south of the 85/80 corridor. This would be along our southern most counties bordering the Florida state line. Non thunderstorm winds are going to be rather strong with this system. We expect winds sustained at 15-25 with gust up to 40-50 mph. This will more than likely lead to power outages. Make sure you have cell phones charged up before going to bed. Rainfall will be rather heavy with this storm system. We could easily see 2-3 inches of rainfall with some spots reaching 4 to 6 inches. You should be very cautious around areas prone to flooding. Never drive through water covering the roadway. The saying goes “turn around don’t drown”! The bottom line is everyone will need to stay weather aware overnight. Make sure you have a way to receive weather warnings.
We do see our weather improving for Wednesday and Thursday of this week. High pressure returns and we receive a good supply of sunshine mid week. Temps will start out cold each morning with lower to mid 30s. Afternoon temps will top out in the mid to upper 50s.
Another storm system will approach Thursday night and move through the area Friday. More rain and storms are likely to work through the area. It’s early in the week so I’ll get us past this overnight system and then focus on the one coming through on Friday.
