Behind the Biscuits: Dominic Keegan

Before Dominic Keegan was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2022 as their fourth round pick, he was a Vanderbilt Commodore. The journey for Keegan as a Commodore began during the 2018-2019 season. Keegan spent four years at Vanderbilt and was a part of two trips the team made to Omaha, Nebraska to compete in the college world series. In 2019 Keegan and the Commodores took home the National Title after defeating Michigan in the championship and then in 2021 were the runners up to Mississippi State.

“It’s like college baseball heaven. You know like, not much goes on in Omaha, but for those two weeks when you’re out there it’s like, like I said, heaven out there for college baseball. And you know a lot of people go out to watch it, and it’s just a really good experience, really cool you know for a 20 year old kid to go experience that,” says Keegan.

And certainly playing among some of the most elite that college baseball has to offer for four season helped prepare him for the next chapter of his baseball journey which was playing professionally.

“I think it just matured me a lot. It taught me how to you know take care of my business, obviously there’s things within the game that’ll help me, but I think a big part of it was just maturing kind of as a man. And out here playing everyday you’re kind of not on your own, but for the most part you kind of are on your own and you’ve got to take care of your business and I think Vanderbilt did a really good job of preparing me for this,” says Keegan.

It is also safe to say that throughout his baseball career Keegan has gotten to celebrate many accomplishments from playing division I baseball, winning a national championship, and being drafted. However, there is still one big thing that Keegan is still looking to accomplish and that’s being called up to the big leagues.

“I mean it’s tough to envision you know I don’t know how I’ll react or how it’ll all go down, but I mean just trying to keep my head down and keep playing everyday and hopefully you know that dream comes to fruition,” says Keegan.
