ACTION 8 UPDATE: Montgomery restaurant owner shot during argument

A Montgomery restaurant owner is in the hospital recovering from a gunshot wound.

The shooting happened around 6:08 p.m. Tuesday in the 1600 block of South Decatur Street. An employee with Action 8 News saw multiple police units at the “Can A Brother Get A Slice?” restaurant.

Police say once they arrived, they found an adult male victim with a life-threatening gunshot wound.

Action 8 News has confirmed the owner of the restaurant, Cedric Sanders, was shot. Sanders’ sister told us that he is doing okay, but had surgery Wednesday morning.

Montgomery police have charged 18-year-old Gregory Robinson with first-degree assault.

According to court records, when officers arrived on the scene, Sanders was inside the building suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.

Robinson told officers that he shot Sanders during a verbal altercation. Sanders who was shot in the abdoment and left forearm, but required surgery.

Robinson later told officers that he became fearful during the argument and pulled out his handgun. He said Sanders began yelling at him louder and told him to shoot him. At that time, Robinson said he pulled the trigger approximately five times and when he realized he shot Sanders, he called police.

Robinson said the victim was not armed during the time and did not physically harm him in any way or attempt to harm him in any way.

Robinson was arrested on the scene and is currently in the Montgomery County Detention Facility on a $20,000 bond.
