ACTION 8 UPDATE: Investigators say the person who threatened the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System facility on Perry Hill Road in Montgomery is now receiving mental health care.

VA officials say at about 9:30 this morning, a male called the veterans suicide hotline. They say he said he had an AR-15 and a .45 handgun and was going to kill everyone at the facility and would kill himself.

A search was conducted for him, including by helicopter. During the search, people were told to stay away from the area.

At around noon, he was captured at his home by Montgomery police officers. He was then taken to a mental health facility.

The male’s name and age haven’t been released. Investigators say he has received care at the VA facility in the past.

They say he will be charged with making a terroristic threat.

“We are grateful for the prompt actions of law enforcement and our VA police,” Valerie Russell, the acting director of CAVHCS said. “Our top priority is ensuring the safety and well-being of veterans, staff and visitors. We are relieved that the situation was swiftly brought under control and the hospital is now secure.”

Operations have now returned to normal.
