Alabama First Lady Speaks to International Students on Women’s Issues

Alabama First Lady Dianne Bentley spent time with international students at Auburn University at Montgomery on Thursday in honor of International Women’s Day, which is March 8th.
AUM is holding its first annual International Women’s Day event. This year’s theme is “inspiring change.” The event encourages women to talk about social, political and economic achievements of women. A group of international and Alabama students gathered to meet Alabama’s first lady. Bentley talked with students and spoke about her experience with leadership and women’s issues.
“Our young people are our future, so you know, because they are and if you can start them out on the right track when they’re young and form good ideals, and encourage them to pursue their career and encourage them to pursue their dreams, then we can hopefully produce each generation better than the last,” Bentley said.
AUM officials say the program is part of the university’s mission to reach out to the world and grow the university’s international student population.
