i-TEAM COLD CASE: Who killed Arkita Stevenson just before she was to go into labor?

ACTION 8 NEWS i-TEAM: Montgomery police need your help solving the murder of a pregnant woman who was killed just before she was scheduled to go into labor.

On April 26, 2011, police found the body of 19-year-old Arkita Stevenson. Her body was discovered behind a church on Fleming Road.

Detectives say she was killed by a single gunshot.

Her family says she was scheduled to be inducted into labor on the morning that she was found dead. Her unborn child also died, which has led to the killing being classified as a double homicide.

“Someone knows something about it, even if it’s just a rumor, we need that information. You have to be a sick minded individual to kill a person that’s nine months pregnant,” Central Alabama CrimeStoppers Executive Director Tony Garrett told Action 8 News.

Thirteen years after Stevenson’s death, her family just wants answers.

“They want closure because they lost a loved one, right when they were going to gain a new loved one. So that family is still hurting. My heart goes out to them, and we need the public to come up with something, with some type of information that may lead to the arrest of this guy or person that’s responsible,” Garrett said.
