Republican Sarah Stewart Wins Alabama Chief Justice Seat
Republican Sarah Stewart defeated Democrat Greg Griffin in the Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice race.
Friends and family gathered with Stewart at Moe’s Barbecue in Montgomery’s Cloverdale neighborhood to show their support.
Justice Sarah Stewart is an Associate Justice on the Alabama Supreme Court, elected as a Republican in November 2018 for a six-year term. Before her appointment, she served for thirteen years as a Circuit Judge in Mobile and was the first female jury trial judge in the area.
She says she is looking forward to becoming the next Chief Justice.
“I am feeling honored and humbled and really overwhelmed by the support of the people of Alabama. And it’s a very exciting time. We have a lot of opportunities in front of us. More than 20 years of judicial experience that I’m bringing to the table and I think I can really do a good job serving the people of Alabama,” said Stewart.
Stewart will replace Chief Justice Tom Parker who was not eligible to seek re-election due to age limits.
