Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit announces new arrest figures
The Metro Area Crime Suppression Unit (MACS) has announced new arrest figures for Montgomery.
At a news conference today inside the Old House Chamber at the Alabama Capitol, federal state and local law enforcement agencies provided an update on their crime-fighting efforts.
ALEA Secretary Hal Taylor said in less than 100 days, 2,300 traffic stops were made that led to 674 arrests. Those arrests ranged from failure to appear in court to capital murder. There were 56 drug seizures, 195 guns seized with 103 machine gun conversion devices and 51 stolen cars.
“I think that’s pretty impressive with the numbers and I appreciate everyone’s support and all they are doing and we’re going to continue this effort,” Taylor said.
MACS is a specialized unit made up of federal, state and local law enforcement agencies to target crime in the Montgomery area and to help provide support to the Montgomery Police Department.
Taylor was joined by Attorney General Steve Marshall, Acting U.S. Attorney Kevin Davidson, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Montgomery Resident Agent in Charge Jennifer Rudden-Conway, Montgomery District Attorney Azzie Oliver, Montgomery County Sheriff Derrick Cunningham and Montgomery Police Chief James Graboys.
