Strong To Severe Storm Threat Ahead
The week is getting underway quiet weatherwise but we do have a storm threat coming our way. Once it passes, we’re back to a mainly sunny and cooler setup for a few days. There’s no Arctic air is sight but temps will fall down into the 30s for lows later this week.
In the meantime, skies will be mostly clear with temps falling into the 40s overnight. Tuesday is looking pretty nice with a mostly sunny sky and temps managing mid to upper 70s for highs. Our weather will go down hill as we enter into the evening hours. A frontal boundary will approach West Alabama early evening and it will advance eastward through the night into early Wednesday. We expect rain and storms along and just ahead of the boundary. Some of the storms may be strong to possibly severe! South and West Alabama sits in an enhanced risk area (3 out of 5 storm scale) with the rest of us in a slight risk (2 out of 5) for severe storms. The main threats will be damaging wind gust up to 60 mph and a few tornadoes. We will also experience non t-storms winds 20-30 mph with gust up to 40 mph. The threat for our area will end around 3am as the storms move into Georgia.
High pressure moves over ahead for the rest of the work week. We settle back into a mainly sunny and dry weather pattern. The air mass will be a bit cooler underneath the highs and morning temps trend colder. We’re expecting mid to upper 30s both Thursday and Friday morning. Daytime highs will manage the lower to mid 60s Wednesday and Thursday but 70s by Friday afternoon.
The upcoming weekend will be our next opportunity for rain activity. Another frontal system will move into the state Saturday.  This round will be mainly rain with no severe storm threat expected at this time. We’re turning a bit cooler on the backside of the frontal system Sunday. There will be abundant sunshine but high temps will only reach the mid 50s Sunday afternoon.
