ACTION 8 UPDATE: Driver involved in chase out of Prattville arrested
The driver involved in a hit-and-run accident in Prattville has been arrested.
Prattville Police Chief Mark Thompson says it all started on February 26 when officers tried to stop a vehicle that had been involved in a hit and run on MLK Drive.
Thompson says the driver of the car refused to stop and drove onto Interstate 65 toward Montgomery.
By about 4:19PM, state troopers joined Prattville police in pursuit of the car, which was a Toyota Camry. The pursuit continued through the City of Montgomery and surrounding areas.
ALEA says eventually, the driver crashed with a commercial vehicle on U.S. Highway 231. The crash resulted in the injury of the driver as well as a passenger in the car. Both the driver and the passenger were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency says the driver has been identified as 26-year-old Keonte Kindred, of Albany, GA.
Kindred was released from the hospital and immediately taken into custody. He is charged with Assault in the Second Degree and is currently in the Montgomery County Detention Facility with a $60,000 cash only bond.
The passenger involved in the incident has also been identified. 28-year-old Jasmine Smith, of Prattville, was taken by helicopter to UAB Hospital for treatment. No word on if she faces any charges at this time.
