Near-record high temperatures through Saturday, storms Sunday

Wednesday morning was mainly cloudy, but sunshine gradually increased during the day as cloud-cover eroded away. Temperatures soared into the upper 80s to low 90s across our area. Montgomery hit 89° just after 2PM, which set a new April 2nd high temperatures. That surpassed the previous record of 88° from 2006. It was also a windy day, with gusts well over 20 mph at times.

Clouds increase again Wednesday night. Temperatures remain warm, with lows in the upper 60s. Clouds gradually mix out again Thursday. Temperatures surge to near 90°. The same pattern repeats Thursday night and Friday, and then Friday night and Saturday. Looks like rain coverage remains spotty at best during that time. However, a storm system finally approaches Alabama Saturday night.

By Sunday morning, storms move into west Alabama. Some may be strong to severe, capable of damaging wind but perhaps a few tornadoes too. Stay tuned for updates as we learn more about Sunday’s severe risk in the coming days. The severe risk ends Sunday night, but rain continues across southeast Alabama into Monday morning. The rest of next week looks mainly dry and cooler, with highs in the low to mid 70s. Lows range from the upper 40s to low 50s.
