Mainly dry, very warm Saturday; Severe storms possible Sunday

Friday was another very warm and mainly dry early April day across central and south Alabama. High temperatures were in the mid to upper 80s. Montgomery was shy of the record high of 89°, which was set recently in 2023. Friday followed a familiar weather pattern from recent days, where a morning deck of low clouds gradually eroded during the day.

Expect low clouds to increase again Friday night. Temperatures remain warm, with highs in the mid to upper 60s. The sky begins mostly cloudy to overcast Saturday, but becomes partly cloudy during the afternoon. Temperatures surge into the mid and upper 80s, well above average for early April. A brief, stray shower may form during the day. However, the vast majority of our area remains totally rain-free.

Severe storms remain possible Sunday. A slight (level 2/5) severe risk covers all of our area from 7AM onward. Damaging wind gusts look like the main hazard as a line or complex of storms works west to east across our area. However, a couple tornadoes appear possible too. Storms arrive in west Alabama by sunrise, and affect east Alabama through Sunday afternoon. The severe risk should wind down around 4PM.

However, showers and storms continue Sunday night and into Monday. Inches of rain may fall in at least part of our area. Monday may remain mainly cloudy and cool with rain into the afternoon based on recent model runs. Rain and the sky clear out Monday night. Temperatures turn cooler, with lows in the 40s. Tuesday and Wednesday look mainly sunny with highs in the low to mid 70s. After Monday, our forecast looks mainly dry through next weekend.
