Montgomery church celebrates Easter Sunday with worship and reflection

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) — Christians across the globe gathered Sunday to celebrate Easter, commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. In Montgomery, thousands of worshipers attended services at hundreds of churches throughout the city.

In east Montgomery, Taylor Road Baptist Church held two Easter morning services, both filled with music and worship. The services marked the culmination of Holy Week, which the congregation observed through various events and services beginning on Palm Sunday. The week reflects on the final days of Jesus’ life, including his crucifixion, and celebrates his resurrection and triumph over sin and death.

“Even if you feel like you’re far from God, maybe you don’t go to church regularly, I know that there are so many churches here in our city, ours included, that have open arms and would love to welcome you,” said Dr. Daniel Atkins, pastor of Taylor Road Baptist Church. “And God welcomes you no matter what your past is, or what’s going on in your life.”

According to the Bible, Jesus was crucified by the Romans around A.D. 30 and rose from the dead three days later. Nearly 2,000 years later, Easter remains one of the most widely observed Christian holidays worldwide.
