Congresswoman Terri Sewell Holds Community Conversation in Lowndes County to discuss DEI

A panel discussion allowed citizens to ask questions and voice concerns about– healthcare, food insecurity, medicaid and education. They also discussed how large financial cuts affect Lowndes County.

The current republican plan takes $230 Billion dollars from SNAP Benefits, $880 billion dollars from Medicaid
Revokes Social Security benefits to seniors and title one programs from Education which could lead to lack of funding for programs such as Head Start which had operated in Lowndes County for 50 years.

In addition, due to DEI Lowndes County has lost 1.5 million dollars originally slated to fund septic tank waste water programs across Lowndes County.

Representatives from the South Central Alabama Departmental Commission, Heart of Alabama Food Bank, Health Services Inc and The Lowndes County Board of Education all served on the panel to answer citizen’s questions.
