Troy University launching artificial intelligence center at Montgomery campus
Troy University has announced the launch of an artificial intelligence center on its campus in downtown Montgomery.
The university says it will take a business-first approach to AI with the opening of the Sorrell College of Business Center for Artificial Intelligence Research and Education.
The goal for the center is to equip business professionals, executives and organizations with the knowledge to evaluate AI opportunities, implement machine-learning models and to manage AI-driven transformations.
Research-based programs including academic programs will be available to meet the growing demands for AI expertise in executive leadership, workforce development and organizational management.
“Our goal from our academic perspective is to produce a masters-level student who can independently go into an organization, assess the opportunities that needed at that organization and lead the change in AI in that organization,” Dr. James Locke, the executive director of the center, told Action 8 News.
“AI is no longer just a tool for data scientists. Business leaders must understand how to leverage AI strategically, manage risk, and ensure ethical deployment,” said Sorrell College Dean Dr. Judson Edwards. “The AI Center will provide that foundational support for business, industry, military and educational needs, and brings together experts who are committed to educating not only our students but the greater community in this emerging field.”
While certificate programs and consulting services are already available, Edwards expects masters-level educational programs in AI, such as an AI-focused Master of Business Administration degree, to be ready for deployment in the coming months, and the Center has teamed with the University-wide AI Forward Committee to implement new technology for educational implementation.
