CAMPAIGN 2026: Montgomery community activist joins governor’s race
CAMPAIGN 2026: Montgomery community activist Ja’mel Brown has announced he’s running for governor.
Brown says he’s seeking the Democratic Party nomination. He made the announcement yesterday at his campaign headquarters in west Montgomery.
Brown said he wants to focus on economic relief, justice reform and education improvements.
“I have experience, I have the knowledge, I have the strength and motivation to get into the state Capitol and work with legislators, both on the Democratic and Republican side,” Brown said.
Brown has previously run for Montgomery mayor and Montgomery city council, but his efforts were unsuccessful.
Brown is the only Democrat to officially declare for the governor’s race so far. On the Republican side, U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville and Hoover insurance agent Ken McFeeters are in the race.
The Alabama primaries are May 19, 2026.
