Running event raises money for Alabama Sheriff’s Youth Ranches
A recent running event has raised money for the Alabama Sheriff’s Youth Ranches.
The River Region Runners has donated $6,000 at a ceremony today.
The ranches provide Alabama’s at-risk children and youth a Christian family-style home where they can grow into responsible and happy adults..
The youth ranches have to raise more than $1.5 million dollars annually to help keep their ranches operating.
The donation comes from the recent 46th Jubilee Run, which is Montgomery’s longest-standing competitive road race held each May.
“Today, by getting that $6,000, I can’t tell you how it makes me feel,” Alabama Sheriff’s Youth Ranches CEO Michael Smith told Action 8 News. “I’m so enlightened over how the public is and how our River Region folks are here, just in this area that help. River Region Runners, not only do they go out and run and stay healthy, but they’re helping taking care of our kids, too.”
“We partnered with them for three years now and have been able to contribute $5,000 the first year, $5,500 last year, and then $6,000 this year, so we liken the progression of what we’re able to donate for helping them with their wonderful cause of trying to help all these kids that are in crisis situations,” Pete Preston, the president of River Region Runners said.
Looking ahead, The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office will be having a children’s charity golf classic September 18 that will benefit the Alabama Sheriff’s Youth Ranches.
